"Resisting easy sentimentality, First Aid For Choking is a journey of hard, searching truths, all while being funny, smart and above all, human." - Olympia Film Society
Gillian Tremaine is an aimless small-town girl who enrolls at the local beauty school dragging along her roommate and outspoken best friend Jay. Also enrolled is Lucinda, a one-time high school friend whose affair with Gillian's father broke up the family. What begins a a half-hearted career move becomes an exercise in reconciliation. As relationships become strained and a new romantic interest throws off the tenuous balance, Gillian is forced to investigate her ability to let others into her life.
Set in Moscow, Idaho, and filled with likable and familiar characters (that don't always make the decisions that you want them to) First Aid For Choking is a realistic portrait of the entrapments of rural towns and family histories, and a moving, often humorous, look at the process of accepting your past before it devastates your future.
